Enjoying Kansas City
You're coming to the WESTERN for business, but that doesn't mean you can't savor a sampling of everything Kansas City has to offer.
Power and Light District
The Kansas City Power & Light District is a vibrant, new
eight-block neighborhood in the heart of downtown Kansas City that is
redefining the City from its skyline to its sidewalks. The District
links together the renovated Bartle Hall Convention Center, the new
Sprint Center, offices, hotels, entertainment, cultural destinations
and residential developments. The $850 million mixed-use District
anchors $5 billion of complimentary development efforts in downtown
Kansas City. The combination of entertainment, retail, nightlife and
residential with the District's imaginative and innovative design, has
created an intriguing 24/7 neighborhood.
The Kansas City Power & Light District features some of the
country's premier operators such as Gordon Biersch Brewery, Mosaic
Lounge, McFadden's Sports Saloon, Lucky Strike Lanes, Famous Dave's
Barbecue, Jos. A. Bank, Raglan Road Irish Pub and Vinino Wine Bar &
Bistro. Many great local establishments also have a home in the
District, including Bristol Seafood Grill, The Peachtree Restaurant and
ChefBurger. The many tastes, flavors and entertainment options of the
District make each visit an enchanting experience. On the corner of
Main and 13th Streets, downtown Kansas City's first grocery store,
Cosentino's Downtown Gourmet Market, prepares to open in Fall 2008.
Across the street from the market, the historic Midland Theatre
transforms into a charming 3,000 capacity live music venue that will
open its doors in late summer. Just down Main Street, the historic
Mainstreet Theater, AMC's flagship arts movie theater, undergoes a
significant revitalization before it opens its door in late fall. Live
entertainment is a frequent happening in the District, especially in KC
Live!
Country Club Plaza
The Plaza’s popularity and reputation has been recognized around the
country. The entire 15-block district, with more than 150 shops and
dozens of fine restaurants, makes The Country Club Plaza Kansas City’s
premier retail, dining and entertainment destination.
Shoppers will recognize fine stores like Anthropologie and Tiffany
& Co. Original Kansas City stores like Halls and Tivol give local
flavor to the Plaza’s reputation as a national fashion center. Pleasant
surprises can be found along each block – from tiny shoe boutiques to
delicious chocolatiers, couture clothiers, stylish salons and fine
jewelry.
Contemporary American to Kansas City steaks, authentic Italian to
cosmopolitan Mexican are all a part of the Plaza experience. Whether
it’s the hot spot that caters to the late crowd or a quiet courtyard
café, the Plaza restaurants offer an atmosphere that no other district
can duplicate.
The Plaza is kept lively with a year-round calendar of music and
special events, including the famous Plaza Lights and the widely
recognized Plaza Art Fair.
With its rich history, fine dining, superb shopping and entertaining
activities throughout the year, it is understandable that the Country
Club Plaza is the Midwest’s premier destination.
Town Center Plaza
Town Center Plaza is currently home to nearly 90 stores and restaurants
and the AMC Town Center 20 Theatres. Its unique variety of stores and
restaurants, plentiful front door parking and intricate landscaping
provide an upscale shopping experience unlike any other in Kansas City.

Much more than a hunting and fishing store, however, Bass Pro Shops also offers equipment for hiking, backpacking, outdoor cooking and more. Shoppers will find outdoor apparel for men, women and children, along with a fine selection of outdoor, casual and athletic footwear. A gift and nature center serves up a wide variety of outdoor-related items from lamps and dishes to bird feeders and furniture.
The nearly 13,000 square-foot Islamorada Fish Company restaurant (pronounced 'eye-la-mah-rah-dah') will feature fresh seafood entrees, smoked meats and wild game, rotisserie broiled fowl, great steaks and more all in a relaxing 'Florida Keys' atmosphere.
Known for bringing the outdoors indoors, a typical Bass Pro Shops retail store features over 3,500 area antiques and artifacts, up to 400 trophy fish and wildlife mounts and many grand murals depicting scenes reminiscent of the area making it a true destination experience.
